Thanks to all who participated in the 2011 North American Housing & HIV/AIDS Research Summit held in New Orleans, Louisiana.
The meeting brought together 306 researchers, policy makers, service providers and people
living with HIV/AIDS from across Canada, the Caribbean, Latin America, Mexico and the United States.
Summit VI was convened by the U.S. National AIDS Housing Coalition (NAHC), the Ontario HIV Treatment Network (OHTN),
and the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Academic partners
included the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, the Tulane University of Public
Health and Tropical Medicine and the Mexican Instituto Nacional de Salud Pública (National
Institute of Public Health).
Since 2005 the Housing and HIV/AIDS Research Summit Series has been the primary venue for informing HIV/AIDS
housing policy in North America, and an influential forum for broader discussion of the role of housing in disease
prevention and management. The theme of Summit VI was Eliminating HIV Health Disparities: Is housing the key to ending
the AIDS crisis? Participants focused on the potential of housing interventions to address HIV health inequities.
View the Summit VI Policy Paper and the Action Strategies developed by participants to translate research into policy and practice.
View the Summit VI Presentations now posted under “Program/Agenda”. Videos of all speakers will be added to the site as soon as possible.
We hope that you will also find the Summit VI Briefing Materials helpful, including issue fact sheets, reports, web resources, and a searchable
Bibliography of over 300 peer-reviewed journal articles on the relationship of housing status and HIV health outcomes.
